Since
the days of his group The Beatnigs, followed by his rap duo
Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, songwriter, composer, producer,
vocalist, musician, activist, poet, and Bay Area hero Michael
Franti has been speaking out and involved in social causes
such as Angela Davis' Critical Resistance organization for
prison reform, Mumia 911 on behalf of prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal,
the Spitfire spoken-word tour, and the Music Bridges project
in Cuba. He frequently speaks out on a variety of topics such
as racism, prison conditions, and police brutality. His involvement
in these projects an integral aspect of his life, Franti's
experiences and insights are expressed explicitly in lyrics
that paint a picture of life's struggles and solutions, and
most importantly of all, life's sweetness of love.
