Tracey Conaty has been a queer rights activist for most of
her adult life. She was a field organizer and later communications
director for the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. She
also co-founded and directed an anti-violence organization
in Washington, D.C., and where recognized as an expert on
the issue of anti-gay violence. Most recently, Conaty has
been in California battling the anti-gay initiative Proposition
22, where she serves as press secretary for the No on Knight
campaign. In recent years, she worked on gay-related initiative
campaigns in Maine and Washington State.
Conaty has spoken around the country on the issue of gay,
lesbian, bisexual, and transgender rights. She has also been
quoted extensively on the subject in the media, including
the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Houston Chronicle,
and Washington Post. Conaty views the movement for gay, lesbian,
bisexual, and transgender rights as part of a broader struggle
of racial and economic justice for all people.
